The gorgeous gowns were not the only thing that caught our attention at the 74th Golden Globe Awards. We were swooning over the striking make-up-looks, which are sure to set the agenda for the beauty trends to come over the coming months. Here are some of our favourite looks and some top tips from make-up artist James McKnight on how you can re-create them…

The best actress nominee looked radiant in her yellow Prada gown, which she chose to accentuate with rosy pink cheeks and a punchy pink lip.

James Top Tips: “This pink lip can be created with i-pout in Pomegranate. Use a pink blusher such as i-glow in Ice Pop high on the apples of the cheeks, to add a soft flush. To avoid looking pink all over, make sure that your nose and mouth area are well concealed.”

I’ll look back on this #GoldenGlobes moment and remember it forever in @ZuhairMuradOfficial…

The Rules Don’t Apply actress showed off her porcelain skin with a matte, brick-red lip, teamed with a wash of dusty pink eyeshadow – an unusual combination, which she pulled off beautifully.

James Top Tips: “Before applying a bright lip colour, it’s important to prep the lips. Exfoliate lips before applying i-pout Lipstick in Ruby Red with our Retractable Lip Brush. Balance this vivid lip with a strong, sculpted brow, which can be created with i-groom.”

Make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury gave Kidman a mesmerising look. Minky grey eyeshadow was blended with a metallic silver tone to make the actress dazzle on the red carpet. Tilbury described the look as “dreamy, ethereal, and has a little bit of a rock chick kind of edge to it.”

James’s Top Tips: “This classic smokey eye will suit women of all ages. Get the look by using i-shadow in Aspen. Apply the silver shade all over the lids and then add the darker grey colour through the sockets and lash line. i-pout Lipstick in Dusk will finish the look off beautifully.”

Scandalous! #KerryWashington take on the red carpet at the #GoldenGlobes!

Not many dark lips were seen on the red carpet, but Washington sure did make a statement with an inky plum pout, that flattered her golden skin tone. She paired this bold lip with long voluminous lashes.

James’s Top Tips: “This is a real statement lip that works best with subtle eyes and skin. Try i-pout in Deep Plum and remember to always apply a strong lip colour with a brush, for a precise finish. As for the rest of the make-up, keep the eyes neutral using i-shadow in Choca Mocha – apply the bronze shade all over the lid and smoke out the sockets with the darker brown colour.”

Make-up artist Leslie Lopez gave the 51 year-old actress a luminous look. Dewy skin, a charcoal smokey eye and pale pink lips worked beautifully against Parker’s white gown.

James’s Top Tips: “This dewy skin can be created by mixing a drop of i-illuminise with your usual foundation. The liquid highlighter contains micro-fine pearls that will give you a truly radiant glow. To re-create this eye look – use i-smoulder in Charcoal on the lids for a soft, smudgy effect. For more drama, use i-gel in Black along the water line.”

“It’s all about turn of the century vintage glamour,” said make-up artist Rachel Goodwin who created this look on the best actress winner.

Stone wore a subtle liner, a touch of blusher and a soft pink lip to compliment her embellished Valentino gown.

James’s Top Tips: “This is a classic look that can be worn at spring weddings or a first date, and it’s really simple to create. Use a cream eyeshadow like I-colour in Tourmaline all over the lids, before drawing a fine line using i-flick in Black. Finish by enhancing the lips with a touch of i-shine in Cosmopolitan.”

Culpo rocked one of the most stand-out looks of the night. Terracotta and gold eyeshadow blended on the lids, a bold brow and vampy beige matte lip looked stunning with her intricate Zuhair Murad gown.

James’s Top Tips: “This gorgeous eye look can be created by using i-smoulder in Chocolate all the way up to the crease of the eyelid, then soften the edges with fingertips. Dab a touch of i-glow in Sirocco on the inner corner and centre part of the eyes for a really expensive-looking glow. Then for an all over sculpted glow, use i-bronze in Rio. Make a ‘3 shape’ with your brush, starting at the temple, going down along the hollow of the cheek and just under the jawline.”
